What A Difference

Hurricane Sandy is making an impact but could be much worse due to its size and I for one feel very fortunate because this could very well be a Category 2 or higher hurricane which would have made this a much more destructive storm than what it is….not to say Sandy isn’t doing any damage at the size it is.
The photos above were taken one week ago at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront at 9th street.

These were taken today, same area.

They were taken in the morning around the same time, about 8:30.

What a difference.
This is a short video I shot while taking the pictures.

A Blogger’s Pic In Poetry 1

I recently came across this photograph by way of my Google+ stream courtesy of Anissa Mayhew  who shares a lot of nice pictures on her stream from other members.

I don’t know what it was about this photo but I was impelled to write a poem about it.

To give you a heads up, this is the first of more to come in a series I’m calling: A Blogger’s Pic In Poetry

I’m not sure where I will find them or how often I will see a poem in a photo, but when I do, it will be included in the series.

I will say that I have spent some time on Daniel Plumer’s Google+ page and I have four poems from some of his photographs. This is the first and I will post the rest in the order that I viewed and wrote the poem for each one.
Reflection

What is, reflects of itself
Doubling of single, non-stealth
Rocky hard, branches sticking
Softly seen, yellow green lifting

I am who I am, am I?
Seen as such is, to eye
Same as is, unchanged two one
Crazy it is, when seen how it’s done

It’s Getting Interesting

First we have an earthquake and now we’re in the path of a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 115 miles per hour, gusting to 140. Some areas have mandatory evacuation while at the moment, some have voluntary evac.

This is a huge storm and unless we can get west of Richmond, we may as well sit tight. Watching the updates, they say that it could come farther inland and really make things nasty.

I bet the store shelves are gonna empty pretty fast….no sooner I say that, I get a pic on TV of a store shelve emptied of its goods.

I hope we don’t lose electricity. I can deal with the wind and rain.

I’m scheduled to work Saturday but that may change. Well, one more day and the fun begins.

First Beach Day 2011

Yesterday was my first day at the beach this year and it was a mixture for me even though I had a good time overall.

Everyone had the day off except Charles…mine didn’t seem like a day off altogether, but that’s all I’m gonna say about that

It started out to be a cloudy day but slowly began to clear somewhat, becoming cloudy to partly cloudy. I heard that it rained at the oceanfront pretty heavy in the morning.

We didn’t see any rain at all even with the clouds. It was warm when we arrived and breezy! We had umbrellas and had to put them down not long after we set up.

The girls didn’t waste any time getting into the water…I cautiously stepped in and couldn’t believe how chilly it was as I watched them play.

Of course there was time for just chillin.

As I said before, it was cloudy all day. Darcel and I had noticed how this cloud looked as if it was reaching for this ship.

ooohhh nooo!!! it looks like that cloud is trying to get me!

it’s a good thing i’m equipped with my new retro
burning fuel stacked packaged excel when needed
system….haahaahaaa!!!!

so long cloud…cain’t touch this!

I guess the ship was too fast for the cloud….hmmmm, maybe the cloud was water logged.

It did look as if it might rain later on and it cooled off quite a bit. Even the sand lost its warmth.

That’s about the time I began to lose interest, but we stayed and the clouds broke up releasing the sun’s warming rays.

Me and TheWife went to Wal Mart yesterday morning to pick up a few things and a grill was one them. Nothing fancy…plain new charcoal burning grill.
As I grilled, I also started this post. This is my new toy…again, nothing fancy. This is my new Dell Inspiron mini. It’s perfect for what I need right now and I can expand so to speak if necessary. I connected my Logitech wireless mouse with ease. If I ever want to work from a larger screen, no problem…I can connect my 21 inch flat panel effortlessly. It’s a good thing I got it when I did. After the storm we had the other day and no electric for a day, my pc won’t even turn on. I have a lot of files I need to retrieve from that hd.

Oh yes…I’m still #workinon my meme which will be starting shortly!! I’m excited about it and hope you will join me when it is launched.

The do’s and don’ts will be coming soon along with how to link in for those who have never done it before.

That’s all I have for now…Whatr U Workin On?

Rain? Water?

Rain and water, one and the same, a liquid, yet we treat each differently. Water is our everyday substance that we cannot do without. We use it in all sorts of commodities, drinks, hair products, bathing products, we use it to wash our clothes, to clean our floors, wash our hands, our cars, we play in it to no end at the beaches and the water parks, we love it so much we have pools in our back yards. We cannot do without water when it comes to the necessities of life and to enjoy in our recreations. We freeze it to accommodate us during the hot summer months, cold drinks, frosty flavored drinks….we welcome this liquid.
Rain for some odd reason is treated totally the opposite, even though it is water. It rains and doom and gloom befalls us. Please let us not wake up to the sound of rain falling. Oh yeah, the start to a great day. Instead of joyfully frolicking through the rain, we run as if it’s going to melt the skin away from us, exposing our flesh…..we can’t have that….so we run, not wanting the rain, uh water, to get us any wetter than what we have already become. Here’s one, you get caught in a downpour without your umbrella….on you’re way to work….upon arrival, for some reason, you get all kinds of —oh my gosh, just look at you dripping water all over the place, you need to do something about that. to the, awwww…..here, get out of that wet jacket, here’s a towel— look. Isn’t it the same liquid we encounter in our everyday life? Sure we receive in a different way…..I mean it is falling from the clouds up above us, which I guess is compounding the situation somehow. Let’s see, we have cloudy skies which seem to put us in a foul mood anyway, coupled with rain, falling from the those clouds, causing the mood from the clouds to be heightened even more….yeah, that’s about it. But the fact still remains that it is the same liquid we enjoy at the beach, in our backyards and at the the water parks….but we won’t wash our clothes, nor will we wash our dishes in it. We won’t use it to brush our teeth or to bathe…..but it’s the same, a liquid……rain/water.  So there should be no reason for us to be in bad moods when it rains……except that…..the sun isn’t shining when it’s raining water…. *sigh*

Darcel, this is dedicated you sweetie, love you

Men and Tears

I’m kinda curious how this will turn out myself, but the thought came to me and it stuck.
Who can remember when  a man was not a man if he cried….show of hands please….nowadays , your not a man if you can’t show emotion. No wonder we’re confused. But seriously, the shedding of tears is not something that is shameful. Think of it as a cleansing. I’m not ashamed to admit that the flood gates have been opened from these eyes on several occasions, for many different reasons. But I can see why some guys don’t like to have a good one in a public setting because some of us have a hard time controlling it….for example, what if it called for maybe a, you know, a whimper but we begin to really get into it, we’ve got snot running out of our nose, face is contorted, our shoulders are hunching up and down….see?…this is why some of us don’t like to cry. So the next time you might be critical of a guy who just refuses to cry openly, he just might be doing everyone a favor.
